Noé - "Pity Party" (Video)

If I were a betting man, I'd go all in on Noé being a household name sooner rather than later. In the meantime, I'll be here urging you all to hop on her bandwagon before it's the "in" thing to do. Weaving through and between different genres all at once, Noé has a sound and style that simply cannot be boxed in. With hints of pop, alternative, R&B and electronic elements, the music is highlighted by the pure, soulful sonic offering of her vocal delivery.

Noé is set to release her debut EP later this year and the Paris-born artist begins the i by noé roll-out with the enchantingly raw and vulnerable ballad that is "Pity Party". Backed by airy production featuring synthed-out percussion, Noé fills the new single with honest, joyfully morbid and self-depreciating prose. Throughout "Pity Party", listeners are opened up to the tragic cycle of feeling overly sorry for oneself while continuing to enter relationships with other individuals who possess that same level of self-indulged drama. Although it's not always in your best interest, vibes don't lie and your vibe attracts your tribe.

The darkness and dramatic nature of her lyrics are juxtaposed with the Marcella Cytrynowicz-directed visual in a beautifully ironic fashion, the video abundant in pastels and an overarching dulcet aesthetic. Working hand-in-hand to create contrasting yet somehow complimenting energies, "Pity Party" is a light-hearted and fun experience for viewers - Noé cuts deep with her content, all the while illuminated by the softness of the visual.

Fresh off the heels of another trip around the sun, Raz Simone comes through with his first visuals of 2018. In typical Raz fashion, the Black Umbrella founder holds nothing back on "Clout", addressing a myriad of subject matter with a confidently calm yet simultaneously aggressive delivery. Simone has always been one of my favorite artists to cover, thanks in large part to the layered presentation of his content. With "Clout", an essay could be composed on both the track itself and the accompanying video - while both seem almost overly simple upon first glance/listen, the song and video cover a lot of ground over the course of five and a half minutes. The visuals are split between two backdrops - Raz being "studied" in a research facility and Raz rapping in the street. Beyond creating good music, the most vital characteristic in any artist is - in my opinion - growth. And growth comes in many forms but, more often than not, the greatest growth comes from recognizing shortcomings; from falling and getting back up, learning from the highs and lows of the evolutionary process.
